RAGTIME FESTIVAL 2010 - The first ragtime festival was recently held at the Pioneer Florida Museum. Dade City Garden Club Cooking School Demonstration Dinner – “Café Habana – A Cuban Dining Experience”
The Dade City Garden Club is pleased to announce that the third cooking school event of the year will be offered on April 15, 2010 and will feature local guest chef, Vickie West. The dinner will begin at 6pm in the gourmet kitchen of Sonny’s Appliances, in Dade City. The cooking school will be co-sponsored by Jim Browne Citrus Chrysler – Jeep – Dodge, 12020 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City and Patriot Chevrolet, 10741 U.S. Hwy 301, Dade City.
The preparation for each course of the meal will be demonstrated and then served to participants. Seating is limited to 48 guests and tickets are $45.00 and must be reserved by calling (352) 567-6841.
The guest chef for the evening will be Vickie West, a local caterer with many years of experience. The menu will include an appetizer of shrimp served with a special Tejano style dipping sauce followed by the main course which will include black bean soup with marinated rice, mixed greens salad with vinaigrette dressing, roast pork tenderloin and Cuban bread. The dessert course will be Tres Leche cake. The appetizer will be paired with sangria and a wine will be served to complement the entrée and dessert with coffee and water also available.
The two previous cooking schools were very successful with delicious meals and a sold out crowd. All proceeds from the events are being used to fund capital outlay projects at the Garden Club building located on 5th Street . The Garden Club dining events will eventually be expanded into an annual "Taste of Dade City” celebration. |

Ragtime Coming to Dade City! - March 12 & 13 |

Ragtime’s Coming to Dade City!

The first annual Dade City Equestrian Parade and Ragtime Festival, an event sponsored by the City of Dade City Youth Council and the Pioneer Florida Museum, will occur Friday and Saturday March 12 and 13. An Evening of Ragtime concert will take place in the Mabel Jordan Barn at the museum, one mile north of Dade City on Highway 301 at 7 PM on Friday. Headliner for this concert will be John Royen, renowned ragtime and jazz pianist out of New Orleans. He will be joined by a ragtime ensemble out of Orlando.
Advance tickets for the concert are $15 and are available at the museum (352-567-0262).
Saturday March 13, will see an Equestrian Parade of horses and horse drawn carts and carriages through Downtown Historic Dade City, leading the crowds to Agnes Lamb Park on Meridian Avenue. At the park there will be live ragtime music, dance exhibitions by Sally Blackwood dance students, vendors, including barbeque and old fashioned smoked mullet by On Q Smokehouse Grill, as well as many family activities, such as Magic by Keith Fleming, and balloons by Tony the Balloon Guy.
Sharing these festive days in downtown Dade City will be A Plant Affair, featuring a Patriotic Standard Flower Show by the Dade City Garden Club, located at 13630 5th Street in Dade City. The preview gala and awards ceremony for this event will take place from 5-6:30 PM on Friday, with tickets available from members or at the door. On Saturday from 10 AM to 3 PM the public is invited to enjoy a Woodland Walk through the botanical gardens, a Gardener’s Bazaar plant sale, and the convenience of a trolley back and forth between Ragtime at Agnes Lamb Park and the Garden Center festivities.

 JBOOM will be playing the historic Osceola Tavern Saturday, Jan 30th, from 8pm to midnight. BOOM is a collection of long-time Dade Citians and Zephyrhillians, including Dennis Alfonso, Jennifer Frazier, Debbie Wilkins, Bud Grudnik, and Rich Parisi. They play an eclectic and exciting mix of rock, blues, and alternative. |

Dade City Garden Club Sponsors Cooking Schools
The Garden Club has two more cooking schools planned in it's series of three events. The first school, The Flavors of Italy, was very successful and everyone enjoyed Chef Bob Parrinello 's food and wine pairings.

Our two remaining "cooking school" events will also be held at Sonny's Appliances in Dade City. The preparation for each course of the meal will be demonstrated and then served to the participants. Seating will be limited to 48 ticket holders. The menu will also include wines especially paired for each course.
The next cooking events will be:
January 21, 2010 – The demonstration meal will have a Cajun/Low Country theme and will be demonstrated by the owner of Malie Kaylai’s Café in Brooksville, Larie Hensley and her two sons. Mallie Kyla’s is a two time winner of the Southern Living Reader’s Choice Award for the Best Small Town Restaurant and was recently featured in a Channel 10 News Flavor segment. After each course is demonstrated, guests will enjoy eating each course which will be paired with an appropriate wine. The sponsors will be Allen Altman of Farm Bureau Insurance, Wilton Simpson of Simpson Environmental Services, Inc., and Dr. Mili Patel, DMD, of Smile Design Dentistry.

Bayou Gumbo
Cajun Shrimp and Grits
Heart of Palm Salad
Rosemary Crostini
Praline Ice Cream Pie with warm Carmel Pecan Sauce
Paired Wines, New Orleans Milk Punch and coffee
